If you haven't seen Lorella Zanardo's film "Il Corpo Delle Donne" yet, you really should! Especially if you live in Italy. You can watch it here at her blog. It's only 25 minutes long, it's in Italian, with English subtitles, and is one of the most powerful critques of Italian Television I've ever seen.
Lorella was recently in Trento for a screening of the documentary in Trento Library. She very kindly gave a short interview for all the girls (and boys) who study at Centromoda Canossa. She talks about several different subjects of real interest to anyone who is planning on working in the fashion industry.

I think that young girls or young woman are fashinating by star people because they would be as beautiful and as charming as they are.
ReplyDeleteVips are always thin, tall and beautiful and they are often pushed to make nice something of their body that befor was bad.
now it is very common to see in TV a woman remade even when it isn't necessary.
The young girl try to imitate vips; infact they want to be very thin in order to wear dress and shorts very small.
The youngs don't realise that it's dangerous to loose weight quickly, because they can get ill: bilimia and anoressia.
I think it is time to change the woman image on TV because now it is negative; it seems without any emotion or feeling.
I wonder why the woman makes her body ridiculous, and why do they want to be only nice, instead of to be shown for her qualities?

2a.Yes, there are a lot of girls who love that kind of image on TV. Infact just this type of girls go on TV. Luckily don't only exist this kind of women,but there are many other intelligent,funny,not vulgar and interesting women too. In particular I'm not fascinated by the image of women on tv show at all.

1) we think that young women are grip by this rapresentation of perfect bodies and faces in television, because they believe that to look like the others, they must be like them; but this is not good because it can cause severe illnesses such as: Bulimia and Anoressia.

While television representations of women have changed greatly in the last twenty years alone, in order to accommodate the changing role of women in society, one is led to ask how much the ideology has changed behind the more modern representations of women. Television is regarded by many viewers to be the most 'real' form of media. If this is the case, then it is important for us to question how real the representations of women are on television and how this affects the attitudes of those who watch. Sexism is the systematic oppression of women by men, and so the amount of sexism, if any, will be investigated as various representations of women are investigated. So we can see then, that television presents its audience with a very masculine perspective… It is not important only the body of the women, important is the intelligence and what they do!

I think it is really necessary to radically change the current image of women in television, it is better to show brilliant and smart women instead of sexy and stupid women. Television makes everything appear perfect, but this are not really us.

I think it is not a better image for young girls: because of this image may arise problems such as anorexia or bulimia. It's a very serious problem!

Beautiful body makes you powerful because it is required this on TV, and go on TV is a thing that everyone envies.
But the body also makes you a slave because now there are many girls who want to rebuild the breast or lips just because they see him on TV.
Everyone should be pleased with their body and do all that TV should not discriminate between good or "bad" woman.

ReplyDeleteI think that it's wrong use the women's body to sell an object or a product or to have more audience. We women can change our image in the media, giving value to our body and know how to use other qualities to make a career.
I think that young women are fascinated by this image of bodies because by now all the mass media talk about thin bodies. We see every day in TV, in posters, in magazines, in newspapers an image of tall girls, with thin and long legs, small sizes, without imperfections. Our life is full of this examples!

Apparently we believe that it makes us powerful, because we believe that we are wonderful, the men fall at our feet and we have all the control.
But the girls don't know that this image of woman spoil their life!!

In people's minds must enter the idea of a woman that is true and normal.

We must understand that the woman's body is not a commodity and should not be exploits. Women should not be appreciated only physically but also internally.
The body changes with time, while the interior of a person remains forever and this is very important.
It’s difficult that the girls understand this concept, because during adolescence is always sought a reference model, but it’s time to change!!
We must send girls the message that the woman is not just appearance and help them understand what the real values of the person.

La donna in televisione è solo decorazione, o rende stupidi a far ridere il pubblico, come se quelle ragazze non erano tutti pari dignità. La società vuole immagine delle donne, richiede donna perfetta, bella, dando una buona immagine in TV, nelle aziende o negli uffici. La donna è un soggetto o di un prodotto disponibile in commercio. quando ha smesso di pensare al successo. le ragazze poi guardare la TV e vogliono essere come quelle ragazze perfette, smettere di mangiare vuole perdere peso. bene al seno e del ventre ricostruito donna magra c 'è la mente e la cultura.
